Heritage International School, Pune, observed Pi Approximation Day on 22nd July 2024, a significant date in the mathematical calendar. The event, dedicated to the mathematical constant π (Pi), underscores its importance in mathematics as the ratio of a circle's circumference to its diameter is approximately equal to 3.14159.
The celebration aimed to inspire students' interest in mathematics by highlighting the beauty and utility of π. Quoting Mary Beth, “We cannot hope that many children will learn mathematics unless we find a way to share our enjoyment and show them its beauty as well as its utility,” the school emphasized the importance of making math engaging and enjoyable.
An array of activities was organized for students from classes 3rd to 10th, focusing on the concepts of circles, circumference, and diameter. These interactive sessions were designed to deepen students' understanding of Pi and its real-life applications. Under the guidance of Principal Dr Renu Patil, mathematics teachers Mrs Hemali, Mrs Rekha N.S, and Mrs Nutan curated creative tasks that encouraged active participation.
The event was marked by enthusiasm and excitement as students immersed themselves in the various activities. The innovative approach taken by the teachers was praised by the school management, who acknowledged the efforts in making learning a joyful and memorable experience.
