Film Review- Juna Furniture

When their son starts conveniently ignoring them, a stark realization hits Govind Pathak, played by Mahesh Manjrekar. The son, Abhay, whom Govind and his wife Suhas (portrayed by Medha Manjrekar) had worked so hard to give the best life to, no longer cares about them. This painful neglect, Govind claims, led to Suhas's death. This accusation becomes central to a court case that Govind files against Abhay, demanding a staggering compensation of Rs 4,72,86,100. Why this specific amount? Will Abhay pay it? Will the strained relationship between father and son change? These are the compelling questions that this poignant drama, written and directed by Mahesh Manjrekar, explores.

"Juna Furniture" is likely to resonate deeply with elderly viewers who might find themselves in similar situations. Simultaneously, it sends a powerful message to the younger generation, urging them not to dismiss or take the older generation for granted, despite differences in lifestyle and beliefs.

Manjrekar not only directs this film beautifully but also delivers one of his finest performances on screen. His portrayal of Govind is meticulous, from his character’s mannerisms to his delivery of lines. Bhushan Pradhan, as the son Abhay, and Anusha Dandekar, as the daughter-in-law, also give commendable performances. Medha Manjrekar, playing Suhas, Sameer Dhamadhikari as the father-in-law, Sachin Khedekar as the judge, Girish Oak as the advocate, Makarand Anaspure as the Chief Minister, and Upendra Limaye and Onkar Bhojane as local goons all bring depth and authenticity to their roles.

On the technical side, the cinematography by Ajit Reddy and the background score by Hitesh Modak deserve special mention. Reddy’s cinematography captures the mood of each scene perfectly, while Modak’s score enhances the emotional weight of the story.

The first half of the film sets up the issue through a series of scenes, akin to other films in this genre. However, it is the second half, particularly the climax, that delivers a powerful impact. Overall, "Juna Furniture" is a moving story of human emotions, resilience, and a societal issue that is very relevant today, making it an excellent choice for a weekend watch.
