Crafting Her Happily Ever After: An Interview with Devangini Mahapatra Chauhan

Neel Writes: Today, we have the pleasure of speaking with Devangini Mahapatra Chauhan, a distinguished author and publisher who has reshaped the publishing landscape in Pune. Recognized by India Today’s digital edition as one of the Top 10 Emerging Digital Icons in India (2021), Devangini’s journey is nothing short of inspirational. Thank you for joining us, Devangini.

Devangini: Thank you for having me. It's a pleasure to be here.

Neel Writes: Your words about happily ever after are profound. Can you elaborate on what it means to you?

Devangini: Happily ever after, to me, is a work in progress. It’s about being present in the here and now, aligning your resources, beliefs, and self-worth to transform your dreams into reality.

Neel Writes: Your journey is remarkable. Could you share a bit about how you ventured into publishing?

Devangini: It started when I set up a self-publishing house in Pune as a single mom. I wanted to change the narrative and contribute to the publishing ecosystem. It was challenging but immensely rewarding, and eventually, I was recognized for my contributions. This led to mentorship roles and opportunities to speak at literary festivals and events across India.

Neel Writes: You mentioned an interesting story about your involvement with the book Flow with the Ganges. Can you tell us more about that?

Devangini: Certainly. An author admired my storytelling so much that she requested to credit me as the author on the book cover, while she remained the story provider. Flow with the Ganges is based on the last Braj Bhasha poet of India, and it was an honour to be part of this project. The great-granddaughter of the poet graciously named me as the author.

Neel Writes: Poetry seems to hold a special place in your heart. How did it influence your journey?

Devangini: Poetry has been my preferred form of expression since I was six. Writing poems became a therapeutic mantra for me, especially during the challenging times of my life. After a difficult 10-year marriage, I found solace in writing a poem each night. Initially, I didn't plan to publish them, but my move to the US in 2021 changed that perspective.

Neel Writes: How did your move to the US impact your career and writing?

Devangini: In the US, I pursued a Practitioner degree in Neurolinguistic Programming, which deepened my understanding of the impact of words. This knowledge, combined with the support of my daughter and partner, helped me heal from my past grief. I compiled 99 poems that narrate my journey through love, pain, and self-recovery into a book titled The Aftermath of Ever After in 99 Poems.

Neel Writes: Your book has been very successful. Can you share its impact?

Devangini: The book reached #1 new release status and ranked highly in the Emotional Abuse and Neurolinguistic Programming categories. It’s also recognized in Inner Child Work. It's fulfilling to know that my words are helping others heal and find the strength to move past toxic relationships.

Neel Writes: That’s incredible. How does it feel to achieve such success with your book?

Devangini: It feels natural, almost like it was meant to be. My purpose has always been to heal people, and this book is the first step. Achieving a work-life balance has allowed me to enjoy the process and the healing that came with it.

Neel Writes: Speaking of healing, how has your personal life evolved?

Devangini: My current relationship is drama-free and fulfilling. Everything I went through has shaped me into someone who can appreciate this peace and become a better parent every day.

Neel Writes: What advice do you give your daughter?

Devangini: I always encourage her to choose herself and focus on becoming the best version of herself. She needs to understand the value of self-love and self-worth.

Neel Writes: Your professional journey is equally inspiring. What are your plans in the publishing industry?

Devangini: I aim to innovate by creating brands out of books, offering complete book bundles to bring authors closer to their readers. I also provide book coaching and publishing services without charging fees, ensuring authors feel safe and supported with And All Publishing.

Neel Writes: Thank you, Devangini, for sharing your inspiring journey with us. Any final words for our readers?

Devangini: Thank you for having me. Remember, this is just the beginning. There’s so much more to create and achieve.

Neel Writes: We look forward to seeing more of your remarkable work. Thank you for your time, Devangini.

Devangini: Thank you.
